Does Metformin Make Anyone Else Extremely Sick?

A myPCOSteam Member asked a question 💭
Sanford, ME

I'm suppose to be taking metformin for my PCOS but I always have to stop taking it because it makes me violeny sick. Like vomiting, extreme diarrhea. My doctor tells me that, that's normal and the symptoms should subside in time but they never do.
I'm just wondering if other people get this way, or if there's other alternatives?

Thank you!

Are you on extended release? I read a few articles online that people had these issues with just the basic metformin. Once when they were switched to extended release it was easier on the stomach and… read more

What Diet/life Style Changes Has Worked For You?

A myPCOSteam Member asked a question 💭
Salisbury, NC

I have tried what seems to be everything. Low carb, weight watchers, exercising 4-5 times a week, nondairy, etc. I have been heavy set since I was in middle school but with the passing of my father it seems like I the depression has really set me back. Just wondering what has been succesful for others (6 months or more and able to stick with it)

What Are Your Thoughts On The Effectiveness Of Metformin?

A myPCOSteam Member asked a question 💭
San Antonio, TX

I have bee. Taking Metformin for almost 3 months now. I was prescribed 500mg ER twice a day by my PCP due to my previous period lastly a month and losing a pint of blood. She said it'll help regulate my hormones and help me become more regular. However in 2 months and about 20days I have had one period which lasted 24 days. How long did it help regulate your periods? I am trying to conceive, will it be best for me to take the next step and try fertility medication?

A myPCOSteam Member

How To Take Pills When Sick?

A myPCOSteam Member asked a question 💭
Lancaster, CA

Ok this is pretty silly but I feel awful like I am going to throw up Metformin is supposed to be taken with food but I don't feel like I can keep anything down. Should I try to force myself to take it anyways? Do I skip it for now and try to take it when I am feeling better? I feel like this should be obvious but I have never been on pills that I take longer than a week or two.

Why, In This Modern Age, Is There No Cure For PCOS?

A myPCOSteam Member asked a question 💭
Portage, MI

Why do some women have this problem? Are women not valued enough, still, for this problem to get medical focus in our society?

I just don't get how you can have such a problem and for there to be nothing to be done about it. No, I just don't get it at all.

A myPCOSteam Member

I'm not disagreeing with the fact that many many women are dealing with this issue and resolutions seem to be few and far between. I'm not sure what you mean "Is it really a disease" - it's affecting… read more
