I Feel So Alone

I feel so alone. No-one I know has PCOS and my doctors are useless
I was diagnosed in April 2015 and was given very little information about it and was told to lose weight to manage it, I've done various different diets/ life style changes and nothing ever happens, I lose a bit and then gain it back again. I've seen a dietitian and she's looked through a food diary and asked me how I cook my food and she can't see anything wrong with the way I eat. I walk a lot of places, I love walks, but… read more

Members rallied around someone feeling isolated with PCOS and frustrated by doctors who refused metformin unless trying to conceive, sharing the deeply familiar struggle of working hard to lose weight through diet and exercise yet seeing no results or quickly regaining what was lost. Many members recommended seeking a second opinion or specialist referral, with several sharing that supplements like myo-inositol and D-chiro-inositol helped with sugar cravings and insulin regulation more than metformin did for them. A recurring theme was the power of dietary changes, particularly eliminating sugar, gluten, and dairy while focusing on low-carb, high-fat meals and strength training to improve insulin sensitivity, with one member describing the first week as brutal but life-changing once the body adjusted.

I've had to change my entire diet. I'm off sugar 100%. Don't eat wheat ( Wheat belly diet has some other options) My diet basically consists of eggs, meat, high fat, lots of veggies and fruit with low glycemic index. No dairy ( or very limited- sometimes cottage cheese) and 2-3 L of water every day.
The difference in how I feel is incredible. The first week I thought I'd die. I had horrible withdrawal and migraines but once I passed that it was like I was a different person.

My best advice is eat a low carb diet, no dairy, not gluten, no sugar. Then do strength training if you haven't started that already. This combination is the only thing that has helped me.

I struggled/still struggle to find the right physicians that understand PCOS and will treat me. I would try another doc. I personally stopped taking metformin because it did not help my symptoms, but it does help a lot of people and I was prescribed it without trying to conceive.

I lost a stone then in one week I put back on 7lb and I didn't change a thing in the diet like you and I just wondered what was the point and just live with it... I'm going to go back to the docs and hopefully see someone more clued up on it.
