Pregnancy And PCOS

A myPCOSteam Member asked a question 💭

I was diagnosed with PCOS March 2015 while being treated for an ectopic pregnancy. I recently just found out I am pregnant again and this seems to be a healthy pregnancy. My question is, for those who have been pregnant before, does PCOS effect a pregnancy much or at all?

You are at higher risk for gestational diabetes and i have been told a slightly higher risk for miscarriage in the first trimester. I have had 4 pregnancies and 4 babies and the only issue i had was gestational diabetes. Keep your diet really good and that helps. You can also get your hormone levels checked if your concerned about your levels but its certainly not necessary.

You have a higher chance of getting GD as mention before and also having a harder time breastfeeding (if this is something you are interested in) but I will say I didn't have GD with my son and breastfed my son until age 2 years old with no supply problems.

Congrats!

Happy Birthday! I didn't have any complications with either of my pregnancies that I held. Every women is different though. Studies have shown that some women with PCOS can have complications. For any concerns that you have always talk with your doctor and keep him/her informed with things that are going on or worries that you have. Hope everything goes well for you!
