I was diagnosed with polycystic ovaries in my 20’s while trying to conceive. Now in my late 40’s. Been off the pill for the past year. Last internal showed no cysts one year ango) and about to go for another. They say once you have PCOS it never goes away. I’m losing hair and given all my tests come up normal I’m not sure if it is PCOS or some other reason. Not pre menopausal either. The doctor says if no cysts then I don’t need to worry about going back on the pill or include metformin, but… read more
For hair loss, you should get your vitamin D checked. I've been losing my hair and I was severely deficient.
This is an article about zinc and pcos. Any thoughts?
Hi Mel,
Yep vitamin d was ok, my hormones appear ok too. I was quite low in ferritin but have brought that up considerably but hair just keeps getting thinner, I am currently off the pill but want to go back on it. I am currently taking iron tablets, vitamin d, and started taking zinc as I read an article that suggests that women with pcos are low in zinc and could cause hair loss. I am hoping once the scan comes back that the doctor puts me back on Diane 35, plus metformin and a medication called spironalactone. Apparently the combination of all 3 is good for pcos based on the article I just read. I am curious if anyone else has had that combination? If that doesn’t work I don’t know what I’m going to do to be honest. The hair loss is getting really hard to hide now and I’m very self conscious about it. This can is one article I read. I’ll post the other one that discusses the combination of all three tomorrow if anyone is interested.
