Does Anyone Here Experience Long Periods? Like Month Long Ones?

A myPCOSteam Member asked a question 💭

When i was younger, my periods were 4-6 days. Still irregular. But shorter than most other peoples. Now when i get my period— it lasts forever. And nearly impossible to end. Do you have any remedies? Beside birth control. I’ve used birth control and it works but it hasnr resolved the regulating of my cycle.

Mine are always very long (usually at least 2 weeks) and very, very heavy...has caused me to have cycle related anemia. My OBGYN is having me try Tranexamic Acid on this next cycle. She says to start it on my first day and at least take it on my heaviest days, up to 5 days a cycle. She thinks it’s possible it may help with the incredible pain, too. I’m hoping I start in a day or 2, based on my trackers, and I will try to check in to tell how this new med goes.
Maybe it’s something that could help you, too.

I have bled for a full year before I got help. I am sure it would have lasted longer if I didnt get help. I tried everything. Creams, vitamins, certain exercises, and nothing helped besides going to the doctor.

Unfortunately yes, my longest was 11 months with no stopping and I ended up hospitalised! Now they know that if i bleed for more than 3 wks at a time they give me utovlan to stop the bleed to take for 3 weeks then stop and it encourages a "normal" cycle. When that hadn't always worked they then give me tranexamic acid which I am told is what they give to people that have been in serious accidents with internal bleeding which really scared me! But hey.. When you bleed for that long horrifically.... id take anything they threw at me to make it stop!

Oh god yes! What did the doctor tell you? I’m on my last straw- been bleeding heavily for a month and I’m currently on birth control. I hadn’t had a period for several months and took medroxyprogesterone and then stopped to kickstart it
