Would You Guys Recommend Giving Metformin A Try?

A myPCOSteam Member asked a question 💭

So my doctor wants me to go on metformin and Im really nervous about it and on the fence on whether or not I should do it. I read lots of information online but most websites just make it sound terrifying! I know if decide to take it there will be side effects, Im just wondering if the positives outweigh those side effects. Whats peoples experience been like on it? has it helped?

There are two types of Metformin, Ive been on both of them. The quick release makes you incredible sick, i would not reccommend it to my worst enemy. But I just started taking the slow release and have none of the side effects I had with the quick release.

I have been on it for 3 months. I've lost 20 pounds so far and my period has come for 2 months now normally I go 3 months without one.

I was on it before getting pregnant with my son back in 2012 and it helped me drop 20lbs. I was recently put back on it to help achieve baby #2 and it's been about 3 months or so and I've lost 10lbs. Not dropping as fast as last time but I'm also not working out like I was before. I don't have any funky side effects but of course everyone is different, I would recommend giving it a try and if you don't like it you can always get off it.

Try it out. Ive only been on it a month or so. I started with the regular 3x daily dose, but it made me sick. Try the extrnded release ones. They made the horrible tummy issues go away.

I have been on it since I was 22 and I have no side effects just make sure you eat with it and you should be fine. If you afraid of taking metformin you can try the natural routes but they can get spendy. Myo- Inositol, vitamin B1, get a good prenatal vitamin with omaga 3 added. Even if you go with metformin you should take a good prenatal Vitamin with Omaga 3 in it as we PCOS women need the extra boosts of vitamins that are in prenatals.
