What Are Your Thoughts On The Effectiveness Of Metformin?

I have bee. Taking Metformin for almost 3 months now. I was prescribed 500mg ER twice a day by my PCP due to my previous period lastly a month and losing a pint of blood. She said it'll help regulate my hormones and help me become more regular. However in 2 months and about 20days I have had one period which lasted 24 days. How long did it help regulate your periods? I am trying to conceive, will it be best for me to take the next step and try fertility medication?

There's no set way that this condition can be treated. What works for me may not work for anybody else. My doctor prescribed the same dosage. I took it for a while and didn't see any difference. During this time I became very ill from the side effects. I started taking inositol instead of Metformin. Worked like a charm. As far as pursuing fertility treatments, if you feel it's time to go that route, why not? Just make sure your doctor is aware of all the things going on with your body first. I started reading a new book on PCOS, I think it might be a good read to further understand where you stand and the things you can do to bring about healthier cycles. If you want I can message you the name of the book. Since I started reading it, things started to make so much sense. I was able to make changes that were customized for me. Not measured by a standard from which we all seem to be measured from. The only way to treat it is through understanding how it works. 😊

Hi, I have been on metformin for years now and it has worked great for me. I had irregular periods a d after 5 years of trying I got pregnant with no help. I was then put on metformin to regulate my periods a d 500 mg twice a day didn't work so I was put up to 1000 twice a day and since then I have been regular and have had 2 more children since being on metformin so maybe they just need to up your dosage

I have used metformin off and on. The first time I took it one time per day and it didnt not regulate. I started seeing a fertility specialist and he bumped me up to four pills per day which was hard on me and I could not be away from the restroom for long. I ended up having to have a surgery so I stopped seeing the specialist and taking the medicine and only till recently did my doctor want me to start back up again. It has started making me regular but now they are coming much more frequently. I am hoping it will finally calm down and get back to a regular routine. I will keep posted on the progress.

This is why I was put on metformin, but it has helped the heaviness and length of my periods.. from 28 days to 5-6 light-medium days. It took 2-3 months for that, but I also have irregular periods. I’ve been on it a year, it’s supposed to help regulate my periods, sometimes I have 2 a month, or I go 3 months without any. I
I’m not trying to conceive, so I haven’t been put on anything else.

it worked for me, for the most part. regulated my cycle, which is what I wanted it do anyway. I didn't have really mad breakouts, just my usual, two or three pimples.. i know that I had 500mg twice a day, but not sure if it was ER or not... I doubt it..

I stopped it in August 2017, due to the stomach issues like unexplained lower right abdominal pain and diarrhea when I first started... I might try the inositol... we'll see
