Anyone Else UK Based?

A myPCOSteam Member asked a question 💭
Nottingham, UK

Feel like PCOS in the UK is so far behind where it seems to be in the US. Currently 23 (nearly 24) with no intention of having a baby anytime soon but managing my symptoms through weight loss so that when I am ready for a baby I have the body to support that. However, there doesn’t seem to be any help at all in the UK for women like me that just want symptom management. Been told I don’t qualify for things like Metformin or Clomid because I’m not diabetic or wanting a baby and just wanting a… read more

Yeah I had my HyCoSy a few weeks ago and I’ve got a blocked tube but other one seems ok, they still want to do more tests and they’re probably going to suggest IVF for me. It’s a long process and only gets longer and more draining tbh, it would be so much better if they could offer the support from the very beginning rather than when we decide to have kids

I’m from Canada and just to let you know it’s the same here. They will not give you those medications until you’re willing to try and conceive. Which is crazy because they need also do a bunch of test like checking if your tubes are blocked, checking your thyroid, checking your sugar levels… it’s probably cuz in America a lot people f places are out of pocket which is very expensive.

They've done his checks, he's all okay luckily.. it's difficult to get to see another doctor at my surgery, not a very big one.
I did raise my concerns that I'm not getting any younger and by the time I get through the waiting list that she's waiting to put me on, my chances will be even lower. Fast approaching 35 :(

Could you speak to a different doctor about referring you for fertility treatment, and can your partner ask his doctor to send him for a referral for sperm analysis? Sometimes they can be quicker if your partner gets that done! The waitlist is really long though, I was on it for about 8-9 months before I had my appointment with the infertility clinic

Also UK based. Only diagnosed when I had 3 missed periods without it being pregnancy after a lifetime of regular periods. After bloods and an ultrasound (along with doc advising I have a typically PCOS belly) I had diagnosis. All very quick compared to what I hear and read from others. I didn't even know what the condition was. The doctor then printed that same NHS page off for me to read about what it is, prescribed Metformin and sent me on my way. Almost a year on and they still haven't referred me for fertility help although I've lost 2st by myself and have been TTC for 4 years 😥
